Canadian International School offers the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) course for grade 9 and 10 students. This programme is provided by University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). The two-year IGCSE programme is the world’s most popular international programme for 14-16 year olds. It develops students’ skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving skills, giving them excellent preparation for their next steps in education.
At Canadian International School , we offer subjects like English Language, English literature, ESL(English as a second language),EAL(English as an additional language), French, Hindi, Spanish, Economics, Business Studies, Global Perspective, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, International mathematics (1 year and 2 years),ICT, Computer Science, Art and design, Drama, Band, Music and Physical Education. These subjects are divided into five curriculum groups for example; Languages, Humanities and Social Sciences, Sciences, Mathematics and Creative- Technical and Vocational .Students have to choose nine subjects from the above mentioned subjects. It is mandatory to choose at least one subject per group and two different languages from Language group.
The IGCSE course is predominantly exam-based. Cambridge IGCSE assessment takes place at the end of the course and includes written, oral, coursework and practical assessments.
Grades are benchmarked using eight internationally recognised grades, A* to G, which have clear guidelines to explain the standard of achievement for each grade. Students select their courses at the beginning of grade 9 and are expected to sit for IGCSE exams in May of Grade 10. Students are not encouraged to change subjects throughout the 2 year programme.
Over the years, the percentage of students who have passed the Grade10 has gone up in all the three categories-Distinction, Merit and Pass. There is a significant increase in number of students in grade 9 this year. Totally we have 99 students enrolled in this program this year including both grade 9 and 10 students. We are hoping to grow even more in future.
