CAS Program

Nurturing respectful global citizens

NURTURING RESPONSIBLE GLOBAL CITIZENS

CAS represents our commitment to helping students become responsible local and global citizens through Creativity, Activity and Service. As the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme’s mission in action, CAS:

International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme’s mission

  • Tests student ability to engage in critical reflection

  • Offers sophisticated opportunities to analyse thought, effort & performance

  •  Teaches how to set challenging goals

  •  Develops the commitment and perseverance to achieve those goals

THE CASE FOR CAS

A successful CAS experience is required before the IB Diploma is awarded, despite the lack of any formal assessment. The CAS Programme starts at the beginning of the IB Diploma and continues on a regular basis (ideally weekly) for a minimum of 18 months. A reasonable balance between creativity, activity and service is expected.

  •  Creativity: Exploring ideas leading to an original product or performance

  • Activity: Physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle

  •  Service: Reciprocal community engagement in response to an authentic need

A parent may be a supervisor for a few activities outside of school.

CAS – BEYOND PARTICIPATION

IB students must maintain and complete a CAS portfolio to support their engagement efforts. The objective is not to show proof of participation, but to demonstrate proficiency in each learning outcome, using the CAS stages (Investigation, Preparation, Action, Reflection and Demonstration) as a
framework.

CAS INTERVIEWS

Three formal, documented interviews are part of the CAS programme. Students will participate in these with their CAS coordinator/advisor at the following stages:

CAS programme

  • End of the first year

  • Conclusion of the CAS Programme

A foundation is established with CAS Orientation during the first week, and students are thereafter guided and motivated by the CAS Coordinator until successful completion.

They were also involved with‘Kyra Club’, which educates society on menstrual health and hygiene, following this up by spreading the message to local government schools.

Some of the other CAS activities include:

  •  Working with NGO Verdentum to raise awareness of global warming

  • Charity events – ‘The Joy of Giving’, ‘Xmas Drive’ & ‘The Walkathon’

  • Day/Night treks organised by India Hikes Organisation

  • Arts, crafts and soccer on weekends with students of Chaitanya School

  •  Visits to old age home Preethi Nivas

  • Excursions to Cambodia, Thailand & the Himalayas
