High School Program

Taking students to the next level of global readiness

HIGH SCHOOL

Through the use of one-to-one iPads from Grades 6-12, combined with the Cambridge IGCSE exams and the IB/CIS Diploma, we hope that each student will leave our school with worthy qualifications and life skills. Our goal is to look not at what we produce, but at the difference we make to every student. Students are encouraged to question, take responsibility for their learning, and reflect on it at regular intervals.

The IGCSE program has a broad range of subjects. The IGCSE option blocks gives you a great platform when you come to the point of choosing your IB subjects. IB Diploma students normally have 2-4 study periods per 6 day cycle, depending on courses chosen. For IB Diploma, 3 HL and 3 SL Classes, ToK, CAS and Extended Essay completion are required.

CIS Diploma takes IB-level classes and must attain a 3 in each class, with no requirement for HL classes. Report cards come 3 times a year with comments. New students get a progress report if they have only been with us for 6 weeks. Grades 9 and 10 follow IGCSE A*-G and IB 7-1 (both based on percentage), with letters for effort A-E.

The IGCSE course is predominantly exam-based. Cambridge IGCSE assessment takes place at the end of the two-year course and includes written, oral, coursework, and practical assessments. Grades are benchmarked using eight internationally recognized grades, A* to G, which have clear guidelines to explain the standard of achievement. Students select their courses at the beginning of Grade 9 and are expected to sit for IGCSE exams in May of Grade 10. Students are not encouraged to change subjects during the program.

As students move into IBDP, they are asked to select 6 subjects from our option blocks to fulfill their IB Diploma requirements of a First Language, Second Language, Social Science, Sciences, Math and Arts/Electives. Along with this, IBDP students need to complete a Theory of Knowledge course, an Extended Essay, and the CAS program. With the exceptions of some of the arts programs, each IB Course has exams at the end of the two years and some internal assessment during the course.

Students are leaders in their own learning, exploring knowledge and reflecting on their context within a specific situation and within the world as a whole. This is a time of independence, leadership and service. CIS prepares students for success in post-secondary education and life as an adult. All IB candidates and their parents are required to undergo intensive curriculum explanation sessions with the IB Coordinator and the guidance counselor in order to make informed and educated choices. CIS graduates have attended top colleges and universities in Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Australia, India, Korea, Singapore, New Zealand, Germany, Switzerland, and France.

Along with the qualifications gained from CIE (IGCSEs) and IBO, we also offer an ‘Experience in the Workplace’ opportunity for students in Grade 10 to go out and work for a company for a week, to see what the ‘real world’ is like. We have a number of partnerships with companies in Bangalore for students to access a range of skills and experiences. Within the IBDP, our students take part in an IB Retreat where they learn all about the program, its structure, and what to expect for the next two years, as well as team-building and leadership exercises. During the first year of IBDP, our students also go on a CAS excursion where they will get the chance to work on a week-long project in India or overseas.

Successful completion of the Cambridge Secondary One program is required for entry into the IGCSE program. Students who wish to join the school in Grade 9 or 10 will be tested for English and Mathematics, and their current course of study will be considered in conjunction with their testing score. For IBDP, students will only be accepted at the beginning of Grade 11. They will be tested in English, Math and a Science of their choosing. These scores, along with reports and grade cards from previous schools, will be considered for admission.

Over the years, the percentage of students who have passed Grade 10 has gone up in all three categories: Distinction, Merit and Pass. In 2015-16, almost 40% of grades awarded to IGCSE students at CIS were either A or A*. IB results are consistently above the worldwide average for Diploma points achieved. CIS prepares students for success in post-secondary education and life as an adult.

All IB candidates and their parents are required to undergo intensive curriculum explanation sessions with the IB Coordinator and Guidance Counselor in order to make informed and educated choices. CIS graduates have attended top colleges and universities in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, India, Korea, Singapore, New Zealand, Germany, Switzerland, and France.
