Sustaining the future, one day at a time

“In the end we will conserve only what we love.

We will love only what we understand. We will understand only what we are taught.”

-Baba Dioum

Our actions toward the environment affects us collectively, now and in the future making it imperative for schools to help children understand this concept. We must consistently strive to empower students with opportunities to engage in the outdoors and environmental issues so they are able to fully understand the importance of being energy savers and good advocates of the earth.

Children may not be able to easily grasp just how much our planet needs to be preserved and protected. At Canadian International School (CIS), students learn about the risks of neglecting our environment and are encouraged to explore and identify solutions with the aim of teaching them positive lifelong habits. The creation and use of renewable energy like solar energy is an important subject for students to learn because a country’s security and economy is closely tied to their use of energy. CIS runs only on solar energy, giving students an informed and involved role in the process of energy conversation, from an early age.

It is our belief that students who learn about solar energy will be in a better position to make the right decisions in the future, creating a positive impact on our environment. By focusing on teamwork and collaboration, we feel that the more children learn about clean energy, the likelihood of wasted energy decreasing become much higher. When it comes to a positive environmental impact, the power of many can truly make a difference.

Every year people across the globe take part in Earth Day. Communities, governments, and schools come together and acknowledge that our earth needs to be preserved and protected. Like this, there are plenty of informational websites and helpful resources to educate children about environment and energy conservation but by studying in a school that is run entirely on solar energy, students are able to see first-hand its impact and benefits. When children are taught to understand the importance of their actions of the environment, they are more likely to take a stand and help in protecting the future of the Earth.

CIS is a culturally-rich mosaic, serving each student by providing a world-class international education, nurturing potential, developing life-long skills, and preparing students for an ever-changing global community.
